Will Grayson, Will Grayson was one of those books that was slightly hyped up on youtube, maybe because one of the authors has his own web series which helps create a fan base that spans the globe. I was wondering if the hype was purely fans raving over a man who in all honesty is very witty and a great person or was the book really good. It turns out the book was really good.
The book follows around two teenagers who have the same name, Will Grayson. They are completely different characters but both relatable in some way or another. One Will Grayson has a best friend who is named Tiny Cooper and Tiny Cooper is gay. When Will Grayson met the other Will Grayson, who is also gay, and tiny hit it off and soon start dating. Strange teenager relationship both friend and romantic abound.
The main characters a really deep, not flat. Throughout the novel you can really see each of them grow and develop into smarter and more confident individuals.
Each character's story was unique and still relatable to most people. Even when it is something that some people can't relate to, the author's do a good job of voicing the characters opinion about the situation for the reader to empathize with their emotions and it doesn't really matter if they experienced it or not.
The writing was phenomenal on both counts. While I had not yet read something by John Green while reading it, after watching so many of his videos, I could really here his voice. David Levithan has such a unique perspective and way of writing his portions of the book that I loved his parts as well. I didn't feel like one author over powered the other. They were both unique in their own way so that I couldn't compare them and say one was better. They were different, and amazing in their own way.
This book is a great story and I really enjoyed the characters. There was some really witty portions that made me smile and some really intense portions that made my heart ache. The entire story was well executed and well written. The ending I have to admit, was a little cheesy but with a book that up until that point had been extremely serious and lacked even a hint of swiss it was excusable.
